After the accomplishment of the building of the Great Pyramid, King Khafre had a hard act to follow. Khafre rose to the occasion by building his pyramid on higher ground giving the illusion that his pyramid was taller. He also encased the lowest course in granite. In this view you can see pieces of granite scattered around the base at the west face:
As we arrive at the north face you can see the two entrances, one at ground level and the other within the lower courses of the pyramid. The second view shows the upper entrance which is presently sealed by a metal door:
Visitors to the pyramid now enter through the ground-level opening. This leads to a descending passageway:
